Lobsterfest 2009

Today was the 14th Annual Lobsterfest for the Trinity Youth Group at the Episcopal Church here in Solebury, PA.  It’s a fund raiser for the Youth Group’s Mission to Philadelphia where the Youth Group, in connection with the Philly based Urban Tree Connection, create urban farms. The urban farms allow city folks to grow their own food.

The actual Lobsterfest is almost a day long event with live music, games, concessions, silent auction and of course food.  They do offer hamburgers and hot dogs but the highlight is of course the lobster.  Unfortunately Donna is allergic to seafood and the smell of the lobster cooking is enough to set her off on a bad path so we made a quick stop and got a dinner for me to go.  Imagine Lobster Take OutLobsterfest Dinner

For a donation of $31 you get a 1 1/2 Pound Lobster, an ear of corn, a portion of creamy coleslaw and a fresh roll.  They are actually prepared for take out so everything comes ready to take home.  My first lobster of the year was well cooked, tender and sweet to the taste.  It was a female, some say they are sweeter, but I enjoyed the roe which came as a bonus.  The Corn was fresh and sweet with plump kernels. The Coleslaw was creamy but needed more carrot to balance the slightly tart cabbage.  The Roll was fresh and great for soaking up the lobster juices and small pieces of lobster meat that fall off as you pick thru the shells. The Lemon Slice was a nice touch as a touch of lemon juice brings out the flavour of the meat even more. BTW I ate on the deck so the smell would bother Donna. Thank heavens it stopped raining today.

This was my 3rd time at the Lobsterfest and I will be back next year.  Let me know if you want to join me.
